TV SHOWS THAT ENDED TO EARLY

Today I decided to present to you 6 TV shows that, for me, were cancelled way to early.

Hoje apresento-vos 6 séries que, na minha opinião, foram canceladas demasiadamente cedo.

Don't Trust the B-- In Apartment 23

Long title, but way too short live. This ABC comedy show was hilarious. First of all the idea of having James Van Der Beek playing a over the top fictionalized version of himself was a genius one. Secondly, Krysten and Dreama worked very well together, a very dynamic duo. Thirdly, the concept was great and very relatable for many viewers - having a crazy roomate. If you have the time, you should watch the two seasons, because it's worthy. And Mamrie Hart appears in one episode. 

Título longo, mas uma vida demasiadamente curta. Esta série de comédia da ABC era hilariante. Em primeiro lugar, a ideia de colocar o James Van Der Beek a representar uma versão ficionalizada (e exagerada) de si próprio, é de génio. Em segundo lugar, Krysten e  Dreama funcionavam muito bem juntas, eram uma verdadeira dupla dinâmica. Terceiramente, o conceito era extraordinário e facilmente relacionável para muitos espectadores - ter um "roomate" doido. Se tiveres tempo, tens de ver as duas temporadas, porque vale mesmoa pena. E a Mamrie Hart entra num dos episódios.

Smash

Smash received the support of critics in its pilot episode, but since the premiere, the critics gradually 'turn their back' to the series. But the truth is that Smash has an Emmy, an huge fanbase and it has a very unique premise : a musical tv show - packed with original songs - the displays the behind the scenes of the Broadway universe . The characters of Katherine McPhee  (runner up on the fifth season of "American Idol" and currently on the show "Scorpion") and Megan Hilty (Broadway star) fight for the role of Marilyn Monroe in the play "Bombshell" written by the characters of Debra Messing (The Mysteries of Laura, Will & Grace) and Christian Borle (two-times Tony Award winner). The cast also features Anjelica Houston (The Adams Family, Prizzi's Honor) and Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Carribean). The series also has amazing guest stars: Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Nick Jonas (Kingdom, Scream Queens), Bernadette Peters (Broadway star) and Liza Minnelli (Cabaret), are some examples.

Smash recebeu o carinho da crítica com o seu episódio piloto, mas desde a exibição do mesmo, a crítica foi gradualmente 'virando as costas' à série. Mas a verdade é que Smash é uma inovação dentro do seu estilo: uma série musical - recheada de músicas originais- que retrata os bastidores do universo da Broadway e detentora de um Emmy. As personagens de Katherine McPhee (que ficou em 2º lugar na quinta temporada de "American Idol" e participa atualmente na série "Scorpion") e Megan Hilty (estrela da Broadway) lutam pelo papel de Marylin Monroe na peça "Bombshell" escrita pelas personagens Debra Messing (The Mysteries of Laura, Will & Grace) e Christian Borle (estrela Broadway e vencedor de dois Tony Awards).  Samantha Who?

The first comedy show since 2000 that i fell in love with. The premise is very simples: the lead role, portrayed by Christina Applegate, developed amnesia after a hit and run accident. Then, she realize that she wasn't a very likeable person before the accident, so she has an opportunity to change. Jean Smart portrayed Applegate's mother, won a Emmy award for her hilarious role. Applegate was  also nominated for two Emmy [in the two years of the show] and a Golden Globe, for this role. This show also introduced me to Melissa McCarthy.

A primeira comédia pela qual me apaixonei desde 2000. A premissa é bastante simples: a protagonista, interpretada por Christina Applegate, desenvolve amnésia após um atropelamento. Após acordar, percebe que não era uma pessoa muito adorada, antes do acidente, por isso tem agora uma oportunidade de mudar. Jean Smart que interpretou a mãe da protagonista, venceu um Emmy pelo seu papel hilariante. Applegate foi nomeada para dois Emmys [durante os dois anos da série] e um Globo de Ouro, para este papel. A série introduziu a Melissa McCarthy na minha vida.

Happy Endings

The best friendship sitcom since Friends (sorry How I Met Your Mother fans). The cast was amazing and to prove that, after the show, all of them were casted in another shows. The catchphrases made us feel a part of the gang. If you haven't watched it, you should.

A melhor série baseada numa amizade desde Friends (desculpem-me fãs do How I Met Your Mother). O elenco é incrível e para provar isso, após o término do show, todos integraram novas séries. Os bordões faziam-nos sentir parte do gang. Se nunca viste, deves fazê-lo.

Hunted

From Wikipedia "Samantha (Melissa George) is an espionage operative for "Byzantium", a private intelligence agency. She survives an attempt on her life, which she strongly suspects was orchestrated by members of the company she works for. After recovering and returning to active duty, she goes back to work undercover as a nanny, not knowing who tried to kill her or whom to trust. It becomes evident that the attempt on her life is tied into a horrific event from her childhood". Great synopsis, right? The show was really clever and well structure but unfortunately was cancelled by BBC. It was reported that a spin-off series would be produced, but the project didn't move forward. 

Traduzido do Wikipédia "Samatha (Melissa George) é uma  agente de espionagem para a "Byzantium", uma agência de inteligência privada. Ela sobrevive a um atentado contra a sua vida, o que a deixou a dúvidas de que foi orquestrada por membros da empresa onde trabalha. Depois de se recuperar e voltar ao ativo, vai voltar a trabalhar à 'paisana' enquanto ama de um miúdo, continuando sem saber quem a tentou matar ou em quem confiar. Torna-se evidente que o atentado contra a sua vida está ligado a um evento horrível da sua infância ". Grandes sinopse, não é? A série era muito inteligente e muito bem estrutura, mas, infelizmente, foi cancelado pela BBC. Falou-se numa hipotética série spin-off  mas, o projeto não avançou.

Go On

A sitcom about grief might sound like a risk, but Go On sounded amazing to me. It had the right amount of charm and funny moments. It featured an amazing and really hilarious cast. Piper Perabo, Lauren Graham and Courteney Cox guest starred on it. 

Uma série de comédia sobre o período de luto soa a um grande risco, mas Go On soou extraordinário para mim. Tinha a porção perfeita de charme e momentos divertidos. Tinha uma elenco extremamente competente e divertido. Piper Perabo, Lauren Graham e Courteney Cox foram algumas das participações especiais da série.

TV DICTIONARY - RECAP

Today's word is...

RECAP

is a short term for recapitulation. In TV, recap occur at the beginning of each episode, in order to recapitulate the story.

Example: You frequently hear the sentence "Previously on [insert the name of the show]", that's a recap.

é a abreviatura para a palavra "recapitulation", que significa recapitulação. Em televisão, os "recaps" surgem no início dos episódios, como forma de recapitular a história. 

Exemplo: Com certeza já ouviram a frase "Anteriormente em [inserir nome da série]", isso é um recap.

NETFLIX

Netflix is about to be available in Portugal. The streaming service that has proven to be a success in most countries in which it is streaming, will arrive in October in my country. The competition already trembles: FOX [in partnership with Vodafone TV] created the FOXPlay, TVI [a portuguese TV channel] released TVI Player, NOS [a cable operator] created the service NOS Play and offered it for free to their customers for a period of three months. However, as it said Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, there's room for everybody to dwell in harmony (film, television and streaming services): "I'm not against going to the cinema. I like to cook, but it's still fun to go out to dinner". But it is undeniable that the future of television and (most likely) will pass through here, the streaming services. Gone are the days when watching television was a family experience, accompanied by opinionated hints by the household. Today the television experience has become more individual, independent: there is the possibility of customization, there is the opportunity to disconnect and re-watch a movie or series in exactly the same place where story was and it's you who controls when you want to see, as you want to see and where you want to see. Netflix, for example, when debuts a brand new show it provides all the episodes on the same day, which avoids weekly recaps and prevents us to make an effort to remind of what had happened in the previous episode, because we can watch all season on the same day, without the control of programming a television station.

This streaming service, can also assist in the portuguese production, for instance, in Brazil, Netflix will premiere next year, a brazilian sci-fi show called 3%. That is, if the platform proves to be a success in my country, it can contribute to us having more national quality series. And at a time when Netflix enters the film market, with 13 productions in development - like the movie War Machine with Brad Pitt and several films produced and starring Adam Sandler - it can also be kind of an incubator for the portuguese cinema that is not in good shape right now, not for lack of talent but for lack of opportunity and essentially lack of financing - I live in a country that abolished the Ministry of Culture, because it is not a priority for the current government, a complete atrocity - so who knows if the Netflix will not be an asset to our production?

Estamos em vésperas da entrada da Netflix em Portugal. O serviço de streaming que tem provado ser um sucesso na maioria dos países em que está enraizado, chegará em Outubro ao nosso país. A concorrência já treme: a FOX [em parceria com a VodafoneTV] criou o FOXPlay, a TVI disponibilizou a TVI Player, a NOS criou o serviço NOS Play e ofereceu-o gratuitamente aos seus clientes, durante três meses. Contudo, tal como afirma Reed Hastings, CEO da Netflix, há lugar para todos habitarem em harmonia (cinema, televisão e serviços streaming): "não sou contra as idas ao cinema. Posso gostar de cozinhar, mas continua a ser divertido ir jantar fora". Mas é inegável que o futuro da televisão e (muito provavelmente) passará por aqui, pelos serviços streaming. Longe vão os tempos em que assistir a televisão era uma experiência familiar, acompanhada por laivos opinativos do agregado familiar. Hoje a experiência televisiva tornou-se mais individual, independente: há a possibilidade de personalização, há a oportunidade de desligar e voltar a ver um filme ou série exatamente no mesmo lugar onde a história havia ficado e és tu quem controla quando queres ver, como queres ver e onde queres ver. A Netflix, por exemplo, quando estreia uma série disponibiliza todos os episódios no mesmo dia, o que evita o 'recap' semanal, evita termos de fazer um esforço para nos lembrarmos do que havia acontecido no episódio anterior, porque podemos assistir a toda a temporada no mesmo dia, sem que haja o controlo da programação de uma estação de televisão.

Este serviço de streaming, pode também auxiliar a produção portuguesa, sendo que na Netflix do Brasil irá estrear, no próximo ano, uma série de sci-fi totalmente brasileira chamada 3%. Ou seja, se a plataforma se revelar um sucesso no nosso país, poderá contribuir para que hajam mais séries de qualidade nacionais. E numa altura em que a Netflix entra no mercado cinematográfico, tendo 13 produções em curso - como o filme War Machine com Brad Pitt e vários filmes produzidos e protagonizados por Adam Sandler - poderá também ser espécie de incubadora para o cinema português que vive nas ruas da amargura, não por falta de talento, mas por falta de oportunidade e essencialmente financiamentos -eu vivo num país que aboliu o Ministério da Cultura, porque não é uma prioridade para os governantes atuais, uma total atrocidade -, por isso quem sabe se o Netflix não será uma mais valia?

STILL ABOUT THE EMMYS

This post marks the last time that I will speak about the Emmys this year in The Project. After the small aftermath I made yesterday concerning my predictions, I decided now to review some parts of the event.

If this year's Emmys awards had to have a name, it would certainly be: Record, after some of the victories broke prejudices and became landmarks in the history of the event. Viola Davis deservedly won the Emmy for best actress in a drama series, thus becomes the first african-American woman, in 67 years of this event, to do so. And although I admit I was rooting for Maslany's victory, I'm very pleased with this 'step forward' by the voters of the Academy.

Uzo Aduba won as best supporting actress, thus becoming the first woman to win Emmys for the same series, but in different categories. A Game of Thrones series broke the record while series with most wins in one night and so now ties with Hill Street Blues and West Wing, as owner of more wins for a drama series. This edition was also the one with most nominations for african-American actors of all time.

Andy Samberg did a good job. It was a concise presenter, had a few interesting moments as the recreation of Girls scene with the giant statue (that decorated the stage) and the initial sketch. However, I don't think he had a very memorable performance, but honestly in recent years, the presenters of this event have not been great in that aspect (and curiously they are all big references for me).

Amy Poehler (which unfortunately did not win the trophy) stole the show again. And I'm still rooting for her and Tina Fey to host the next edition of the Emmys (or any other type of award ceremony, in fact). Let's hope so!

Este post marca a última vez que falarei acerca dos Emmys deste ano no The Project. Após o pequeno rescaldo que fiz ontem, relativo às minhas previsões, decidi agora comentar um pouco da gala. 

Se a edição deste ano dos prémios Emmys tivesse de ser designada, o nome escolhido será com certeza : Recorde, após vitórias que quebraram preconceitos e se tornaram marcos na história do evento. Viola Davis merecidamente, venceu o Emmy de melhor atriz numa série dramática, torna-se assim a primeira mulher afro-america, em 67 anos deste evento, a fazê-lo. E embora admita que estava a torcer pela vitória de Maslany, que seria justíssima, fiquei muito satisfeito com este 'passo em frente' por parte dos eleitores da Academia. 

Uzo Aduba venceu como melhor atriz secundária, tornando-se assim a primeira mulher a vencer Emmys pela mesma série, mas em categorias distintas. A série Game of Thrones bateu o recorde enquanto série com mais vitórias numa só noite e por isso, empata agora com Hill Street Blues e West Wing, enquanto detentor de mais vitórias para uma série dramática. A edição ficou também marcada por ter o maior número de nomeações para atores afro-americanos de sempre.  

Andy Samberg fez um  bom trabalho. Foi um apresentador conciso, teve momentos interessantes como a recriação da cena da série Girls com a estátua gigante (que decorava o palco) e o sketch inicial. Contudo, acho que não teve uma prestação extremamente memorável, mas honestamente nos últimos anos, os apresentadores deste certame têm falhado muito nesse aspeto (e curiosamente todos eles são grandes referências para mim).

Amy Poehler (que infelizmente não venceu o troféu) roubou mais uma vez, o protagonismo da gala. E por isso, continuo a torcer para que a dupla Poehler e Fey apresentem a próxima edição dos Emmys (ou qualquer outro tipo de cerimónia de prémio, na realidade). Vamos torcer por isso!

DRAMEDY

Girls. Glee. Shameless. Orange is The New Black. Transparent. All of them are dramedies: the actors triathlon - the character is so happy and so joyful in one moment, and in another moment is sobbing on his/her own bed, well, just like real life. Dramedy is giving characthers more dimensions and make us relate with them more easily, because they sound a lot more like real people. 

This "new" genre of television is confusing the academies and associations that reward TV shows. Last year, for instance, Orange is The New Black was considered as a comedy in Emmys Awards. This year, the rules changed - "any show where episodes average a length of 30 minutes is eligible to enter as a comedy and series with episodes that average a length of 1 hour is eligible as a drama." But there are exceptions such as Jane The Virgin, Shameless and Glee that exceed 30 minutes, but they were able to be eligible as a comedy , because they pass through a process where the producers requested to a new Academy panel to have the show be considered for the alternative category.

There's so many TV shows on american's television and streaming media that this situation could be avoid if they create a Dramedy category. Looking that this years nominees Transparent and Orange Is The New Black could jump to that category. It seems easy and simple. This seems like a good solution, doesn't it?

But the true is that awards ceremonies are all about the prestige and if they widen their barriers, they might lose their credit. Besides, although there are many dramedies on television (and more to come) that doesn't mean that they're all outstanding. However, with all the new categories and the division between the variety category, I do believe that the dramedy category might be a reality in a few years in awards ceremonies. Let's wait and see.

Girls.Glee. Shameless. Orange Is The New Black, Transparent. Todas são dramédias: o triatlo dos actores: a personagem está tão feliz e animada, num momento e logo depois, está a chorar deitada na sua cama, bem, como aconteceria na vida real. Dramédia está a dar mais dimensões às personagens e torna-se mais fácil de nos identificarmos com elas, porque soam a pessoas reais. 

Este "novo" género de televisão está a confundir as academias e associações que distinguem séries de televisão. No ano passado, por exemplo, Orange Is The New Black era considerada como uma série de comédia, nos Emmys. Este ano, as regras mudaram - "qualquer série com episódios inferiores a 30 minutos são elegíveis como comédias e as séries com episódios de uma hora são elegíveis como séries dramáticas". Mas existem exceções como Jane The Virgin, Shameless e Glee que excedem os 30 minutos, mas conseguiram ser elegidos como séries comédia, pois se submeteram a um processo onde um novo painel da Academia reconsidera a série numa categoria alternativa.

Existem tantas séries na televisão americana e nos media de "streaming", e como tal, seria tão simples resolver esta situação, bastava criar uma nova categoria, a de Dramédia. Olhando para os nomeados deste ano, Transparent e Orange Is The New Black poderiam saltar para esta categoria. Parece simples e rápido de resolver. Parece uma boa solução, não parece?

Mas a verdade é que as cerimónias de premiação têm como intuito premiar o prestígio e se alargarem os seus horizontes, poderão comprometer essa sua pretensão. Para além disso, embora existam muitas dramédias atualmente (e mais surgirão) isso não quer dizer que sejam todas incríveis. WHAT DO I LOOK FOR IN A FICTION FORMAT

I've decided to tell you what do I look for in a fiction format ( a TV show, a movie or even a book). Some people might need characters who they can identify with, other people might need something to make them forget their lives for a few moments, some people are just looking for entertainment, so here it's what I look for.

Decidi contar-vos o que procuro num formato de ficção, seja ele uma série, um filme ou até mesmo um livro. Algumas pessoas podem precisar de personagens com quem se identiquem, outras precisam de algo que as faça esquecer das suas vidas por um minutos, outras procuram entertenimento, por isso, aqui está o que EU procuro.

THE SCRIPT

For me , the script is an essential part for a fiction formato to capture my attention. The script doesn't need to be always innovative or surprising - but if it is, even better - but it's important to be closely-knit, to make sense. I think despite the fiction format, the script must be built with "head, shoulders, knees and toes", to avoid plot holes.

Para mim, o argumento é essencial para que determinado produto de ficção me desperte atenção. O argumento não precisa de ser sempre inovador e surpreendente - mas se o for, tanto melhor-, mas é importante que seja coeso, que faça sentido. Acho que independentemente do género de ficção, o argumento deve ser elaborado com "peso e medida", sem que haja desleixos.

MULTIDIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS

The way the characters were built, plays a big role that will allow me to determine whether or not I will continue to watch or read a  fiction project. I've given up good TV shows who are extremely appreciated by a large patch of the population, because the characters were one-dimensional, ie the bad guys were always bad and the good guys were always good. As we all know, everyone has their "bad/naughty" side and their "nice" side. There's no linearity, it all depends on the situation that we are dealing with and the problems we are facing, that will determine the way that we're going to respond and this is something I like to see in fiction projects. And although it's hard to make - or at least more difficult than creating one-dimensional characters - if the characters have various dimensions, this will enrich the story, because it can lead to numerous twists, for example.

A construção das personagens desempenha um grande papel que me irá permitir determinar se vou ou não continuar a assistir a determinado projeto de ficção. Já desisti de séries bem mediáticas e que são extremamente apreciadas por uma grande mancha da população, porque as personagens eram unidimensionais, ou seja, os mauzinhos eram mauzinhos e os bonzinhos eram bonzinhos. Como todos nós sabemos, cada pessoa tem o seu lado "mauzinho" e o seu lado "bonzinho", não existe uma linearidade, dependendo da situação em que nos encontramos ou dos problemas que temos de enfrentar, vamos responder de diferentes formas e isso é algo que gosto de ver em projetos de ficção. E embora seja difícil de fazer - ou pelo menos mais difícil do que criar personagens unidimensionais -, se as personagens tiverem várias dimensões vão enriquecer a história, que poderá contar com inúmeras reviravoltas, por exemplo.

TWISTS

I don't like to know everything about a story. I like to get to know the story and their character, through small or big surprising twists that changed the fate of the story. A good twist, well-founded and defended is hard to do, so I really enjoy when writers do it. 

Eu gosto de não saber tudo acerca de uma história. Gosto de "ir sabendo", através de pequenas ou grandes reviravoltas inesperadas que mudam completamente o decurso da história. Uma boa reviravolta, bem fundamentada, bem defendida é difícil de se fazer e daí, apreciar tanto quando estas existem.

FALL'S NEW DRAMA SHOWS

After presenting the new comedy shows debuting this fall, I'll introduce to you some of the new drama shows, although I have to say that I do believe that the best drama shows will premiere during the midseason. Here it's 5 of the new drama shows.

Após apresentar as novas comédias que estrearão no Outono, apresento-vos agora algumas das séries dramáticas, embora eu ache que as melhores séries dramáticas chegam na midseason (entre Janeiro e Março).Aqui têm 5 das novas séries dramáticas.

Limitless (CBS)

Synopsis: Based on the 2011 feature film starring Cooper, the series follows Brian Finch as he discovers the power of the mysterious drug NZT, and is coerced into using his newfound abilities to solve weekly cases for the FBI.

Premieres: 22nd September

Sinopse: Baseado no filme de 2011, protagonizado por Bradley Cooper, a série segue a vida de Brian Finch, que descobre o poder da misteriosa droga NZT, e é coagido a usar a sua mais recente descoberta para resolver casos para o FBI.

Estreia: 22 de Setembro, nos EUA.

Minory Report (FOX)

Synopsis: Picks up 10 years after the end of Pre-crime in DC, where one of the three Pre-cogs, Dash struggles to lead a “normal” human life, haunted as he is by visions of the future. But then Dash meets a detective who just may help him find a purpose to his gift.

Premieres: 21st September

Sinopse: A série inicia 10 anos após o fim do pré-crime em Washington, onde um dos 3 "pre-cogs", Dash luta para ter uma vida humana normal, embora seja assombrado por visões do futuro. Mas Dash acaba por conhecer uma detective que será a ajuda que ele necessita para encontrar um propósito para o seu dom.

Quantico (ABC)

Synopsis: A diverse group of recruits have arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, the brightest and the most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.

Sinopse: Um diverso grupo de recrutas chega à base Quantico do FBI para a fase de treino. Eles são os melhores, os mais brilhantes e os mais cuidadosos recrutas, daí que pareça impossível que um deles seja suspeito de planejar o maior ataque em Nova York desde o 11 de Setembro.

Supergirl (CBS)

Synopsis: Kara Zor-El escaped her home planet of Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has concealed the powers she shares with her (ahem) "famous cousin." But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Sinopse: Kara Zol-El escapou do seu planeta natal Krypton durante a sua destruição, há anos atrás. Wicked City (ABC)

Synopsis: Each season, Wicked City will follow a different case set in a different noteworthy era of LA history, starting with a murder case from 1982 centered on the rock and roll, cocaine-infused revelry of the Sunset Strip. Alliances are formed between detectives, reporters, drug dealers and club-goers to solve a serial murder case.

Premieres: 27th September

Sinopse: Em cada temporada, Wicked City seguirá um caso diferente, numa época diferente da história de Los Angeles, começando com um caso de um assassínio de 1982, que tem como plano de fundo : o rock and roll e a folia da infusão de cocaína em Sunset Strip. Alianças são formadas entre detectives, repórteres, traficantes de droga e frequentadores da noite, para que o caso seja resolvido.

Soundtrack is a very important part of any TV show's success - it might not be the most important part, but it has a certain amount of importance. So in this segment I will provide you with some musical suggestions from some of TV Show that I watch.

ANATOMIA DE GREY

Shonda Rhimes first TV child has provide us with some amazing music throughout the years. Brandi Carlile's "The Story", Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", The Fray's "How To Save a Life" just to name a few. So here it's a few of my favorites. 

O primeiro filho televisivo de Shonda Rhimes tem-nos abençoado com uma panóplia de músicas de qualidade durante os anos. "The Story" de Brandi Carlile, "Chasing Cars" de Snow Patrol, "How To Save a Life" de The Fray são alguns desses exemplos. Aqui ficam algumas das minhas músicas favoritas, que fizeram parte da série. 

Sleeping At Last - Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Grey's Anatomy introduce me to Sleeping At Last - an amazing band that you should check it out. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" is one of my guilty pleasures, but this band's cover is breathtaking. The song was featured on the show on season 10, which had many  80's covers songs.

Anatomia de Grey introduziu-me os Sleeping At Last - uma extraordinária banda que tu deverias pesquisar. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" é um dos meus guilty pleasures, mas a versão deste banda é inacreditável. A canção fez parte da banda sonora da série na temporada 10, que contou com muitas covers dos anos 80. 

Hollywood Mon Amour - What a Feeling (Flashdance)

Fans will remember this one. It was the background music from Meredith & Derek's post-it wedding. The best cover of Irene Cara's song ever made. 

Esta música é daquelas que qualquer fã da série reconhece imediatamente. Serviu de plano de fundo para o casamento no post-it da Meredith e do Derek. A melhor versão alguma vez conseguida da música de Irene Cara. 

Bryan Christopher - The Quest 

Bryan has such an unique and iconic voice, that when i first heard the song I thought it belonged to a female singer. I was wrong. Such a great great song.

Bryan tem uma voz única e extremamente icónica, aliás a primeira vez que a ouvi pensei que pertencia a uma cantora. Estava errado. Uma música incrível. 

Jetta - Feels Like Coming Home

Jetta sounds like a hypothetical daughter between Adele and John Legend. So much soul.

A Jetta soa a uma hipotética filha entre Adele e John Legend. Tanto soul.

Who deserves to win:  I do like The Amazing Race and if it wins, it's well-deserved. But I think "Dancing With The Stars" is mesmerizing, they (the producers) have the capability to create an exciting show 2 times a year and it never won. "So You Think You Can Dance" is also great.

Who should have been nominated: "American Idol" would fit perfectly in this category. Also, "Lip Sync Battle" and "America's Got Talent".

Quem vai ganhar: Em doze anos em que o The Amazing Race recebeu nomeações, venceu 10 vezes. Por isso acho que este ano não será diferente.

Quem merecia ganhar: Eu gosto do The Amazing Race e caso ganhe, é merecido. Contudo, penso que o "Dancing With The Stars" é fascinante, eles (produtores) têm a capacidade de criar um programa entusiasmante duas vezes por ano e nunca venceu este título."So You Think You Can Dance" também é um excelente formato.

Quem deveria ter ficado nomeado: "American Idol" encaixaria perfeitamente nesta categoria.Também, "Lip Sync Battle" e "America's Got Talent".

Quem vai ganhar: Esta categoria não existia em anos anteriores, era tudo colocado na mesma categoria, juntavam todos os formatos de variedades (talk-shows e sketches). Eu penso que será entre SNL e Inside Amy Schumer.

TV DICTIONARY || Spin-off

"TV Dictionary" is the new segment of The Project. I publish, very regularly, posts filled with terms that are part of the television's jargon. So I decided to create this blog segment to explain the meanings of several terms that are part "the television dictionary".

"TV Dictionary" é a nova rubrica do The Project. Eu publico, com muita regularidade, posts recheados de termos que fazem parte da gíria televisiva e dos críticos de televisão. Por isso, decidi criar este segmento do blog para explicar os significados de diversos termos que fazem parte "do dicionário da televisão".

SPIN OFF

Spin-off is a television format that is derived from another. In case it is a fiction format, it might feature the some characters (or all characters) from the product that derives.

Example: the CSI series has a few spin-offs (CSI Miami, CSI New York and recently Cyber CSI). Private Practise and The Flash are spin-offs of Grey's Anatomy and Arrow, respectively.

Spin-off diz respeito a um formato televisivo que deriva de outro. No caso de se tratar de um formato de ficção, pode contar com algumas personagens (ou até todas as personagens) do produto que deriva.

Exemplo: a série CSI tem uma panóplia de spin-offs (CSI Miami, CSI Nova Iorque e recentemente, CSI Cyber). A série Clínica Privada e The Flash são spin-offs das séries Anatomia de Grey e Arrow, respetivamente.
