JUKEBOX || 8th Week

Katherine McPhee is not a strange face for a large majority: she was the runner-up on the fifth season of "American Idol," starred in the TV show "Smash" and is part of the cast of the series "Scorpion", currently on CBS. Recently she released her fourth album titled "Hysteria", which although its premise is not to innovate and revolutionize the pop industry, is an interesting album full of songs that could / can be part of the playlists of current radio just like Lea Michele's album "Louder". The song "Only One" is part of the album and its chorus sounds like "We Are Never Getting Back Together" from Taylor Swift, with all the oscillations between falsetto and normal voice, but is more a R&B song than Swift's composition. "Round Your Little Fingers" is one of the great ballads of "Hysteria", which allows McPhee to display her voice's potential. Plus, it is written by Sia.

The theme "Lick My Lips", although sounds very commercial and its written by Luther Vandross, was not the best bet (or safer choice) as her first single. "Stranger Than Fiction" would be a smarter choice. The song written by Ryan Tedder - who had previously worked with McPhee [with the song "Touch Me" series "Smash"] - has all the ingredients to be part of the Billboard top, because it sounds like One Republic. And it's with this song that I leave you this week.

Katherine McPhee não é uma cara estranha para uma grande maioria: ficou em segundo lugar no "American Idol", protagonizou a série "Smash" e faz parte do elenco da série "Scorpion",a ser atualmente exibida pela CBS. Recentemente lançou o seu quarto álbum intitulado de "Hysteria", que embora não surja com a premissa de inovar ou revolucionar a indústria pop, é um álbum interessante recheado de músicas que poderiam/podem fazer parte das playlists das rádios atuais, bem ao género do "Louder" de Lea Michele. A música "Only One" faz parte do álbum e o seu refrão soa a "We Are Never Getting Back Together" da Taylor Swift, com todas as oscilações entre o falseto e a voz normal, contudo é um tema mais R&B do que a composição de Swift. "Round Your Little Fingers" é uma das grandes baladas de "Hysteria", que permite mostrar a potencialidade da voz da artista. Para além disso, foi escrito pela Sia.

O tema"Lick My Lips", embora seja comercial e escrito por Luther Vandross, não foi a melhor aposta (ou a mais segura) para primeiro single. "Stranger Than Fiction" seria uma escolha mais inteligente. A música escrita por Ryan Tedder - que já havia trabalhado com McPhee [com o tema "Touch Me" da série "Smash"] - tem todos os ingredientes para fazer parte do top da Billboard, porque soa a música dos One Republic. E é com essa música que vos deixo esta semana.

MS MR is an american rock indie band. Their music was feature in shows like Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, Scream and Revenge. Florence And The Machine and Lana Del Rey's lover will, probably, enjoy the band, because they share a very similiar vibe. 

I introduce to you their 2013 single, "Fantasy".

Soundtrack is a very important part of any TV show's success - it might not be the most important part, but it has a certain amount of importance. So in this segment I will provide you with some musical suggestions from some of TV Show that I watch.

A banda sonora desempenha uma importante parte, no que diz respeito ao sucesso de uma série televisiva - embora possa não ser a parte mais importante, tem uma certa quantidade de importância. Portanto, nesta rubrica irei presentar-vos com algumas sugestões musicais de algumas séries televisivas, que assisto.

Shonda Rhimes first TV child has provide us with some amazing music throughout the years. Brandi Carlile's "The Story", Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", The Fray's "How To Save a Life" just to name a few. So here it's a few of my favorites. 

O primeiro filho televisivo de Shonda Rhimes tem-nos abençoado com uma panóplia de músicas de qualidade durante os anos. "The Story" de Brandi Carlile, "Chasing Cars" de Snow Patrol, "How To Save a Life" de The Fray são alguns desses exemplos. Aqui ficam algumas das minhas músicas favoritas, que fizeram parte da série. 

Sleeping At Last - Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Grey's Anatomy introduce me to Sleeping At Last - an amazing band that you should check it out. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" is one of my guilty pleasures, but this band's cover is breathtaking. The song was featured on the show on season 10, which had many  80's covers songs.

Anatomia de Grey introduziu-me os Sleeping At Last - uma extraordinária banda que tu deverias pesquisar. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" é um dos meus guilty pleasures, mas a versão deste banda é inacreditável. A canção fez parte da banda sonora da série na temporada 10, que contou com muitas covers dos anos 80. 

Hollywood Mon Amour - What a Feeling (Flashdance)

Fans will remember this one. It was the background music from Meredith & Derek's post-it wedding. The best cover of Irene Cara's song ever made. 

Esta música é daquelas que qualquer fã da série reconhece imediatamente. Serviu de plano de fundo para o casamento no post-it da Meredith e do Derek. A melhor versão alguma vez conseguida da música de Irene Cara. 

Bryan Christopher - The Quest 

Bryan has such an unique and iconic voice, that when i first heard the song I thought it belonged to a female singer. I was wrong. Such a great great song.

Bryan tem uma voz única e extremamente icónica, aliás a primeira vez que a ouvi pensei que pertencia a uma cantora. Estava errado. Uma música incrível. 

Jetta - Feels Like Coming Home

Jetta sounds like a hypothetical daughter between Adele and John Legend. So much soul.

A Jetta soa a uma hipotética filha entre Adele e John Legend. Tanto soul.

JUKEBOX || 6th Week

This week I will present to you Barcelona, a indie rock band from Seattle, Washington. "Drop Everything" is this week's song and it belongs to their penultimate EP "Love You". It's a very chill song that I think you should listen.

Esta semana apresento-vos Barcelona, uma banda rock indie de Seattle, Washington. "Drop Everything" é a música que destaco neste Jukebox e pertence à penúltima EP da banda: "Love You". É uma canção muito 'chill' que eu penso que deveriam ouvir.

JUKEBOX || 5th Week

After the VMAS 2015 Miley Cyrus launched her fifth solo album (completely free): "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz". After several bubblegum pop singles, some hits that were twerking anthems, and even some portentous ballads, Miley provide us a more mature album, more experimental than anything that she had made to date. These songs on "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz" sound like something created by a hypothetical child (in this case, daughter) between the singers Peaches and Lana Del Ray.

The album has a very different sound from what is heard on the charts today. Of all the songs, maybe "I Get So Scared" and "Twinkle Song" are only ones who most resemble of what is done today in pop music.

"Space Boots" - the song that I present today - is part of this new album the artist.

Após os VMAS 2015, Miley Cyrus lançou (de forma totalmente gratuita) o seu quinto álbum a solo "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz". Após vários singles de bubblegum pop, de outros que convidavam ao twerking e ainda algumas baladas portentosas, Miley apresenta um álbum mais maduro, mais experimental do que tudo o que fez até à data. As músicas presentes em "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz" soam a algo criado por um hipotético filho (neste caso, filha) entre as cantoras Peaches e Lana Del Ray. 

O álbum tem uma sonoridade bem distinta daquela que está presente nos tops musicais atuais. De todas as faixas, talvez "I Get So Scared" e "Twinkle Song" sejam aquelas que mais se assemelham com o que se faz atualmente na música pop.

"Space Boots" - a música que vos apresento hoje - faz parte deste novo trabalho da artista.

JUKEBOX || 4th Week

I'm a sucker for Motown. I love big soulful voices. "Heat Wave" from Martha and The Vandellas fills perfectly my personal taste, so I decided to share this song with you on the fourth week of Jukebox.

Eu sou um apaixonado pela era de ouro da discográfica Motown. Gosto de poderosas vozes cheias recheadas soul. "Heat Wave" de Martha and The Vandellas cumpre todos os requisitos anteriormente citados, logo decidi partilhar convosco nesta quarta semana do Jukebox.

JUKEBOX || 3rd Week

Oh Wonder are a band lead by a duo: Anthony & Josephine. This project has born in 2014 and since then they promise to release a single monthly. "Technicolor Beat" are one of the song from the british band, that will release their debut album next month.

Oh Wonder são uma banda liderada por uma dupla de cantores: Anthony e Josephine. O projeto nasceu em 2014 e desde então prometeram lançar uma música mensalmente. "Technicolor Beat" faz parte do repertório da banda britânica, que verá o seu primeiro álbum ser lançado no próximo mês.

JUKEBOX || 2nd Week

Ella Henderson has only 16 years, but her first album went straight to number 1 on the UK charts and it peaked a very pleasant number 11 on the US charts. She finished on 6th place on the ninth season of "X Factor UK" - which was one of the biggest shocks of the format ever, because she was 'winner-material'-. This week song is "Empire" from Ella's debut album "Chapter One".

Ella Henderson tem apenas 16 anos, mas o seu primeiro álbum estreou em primeiro lugar nos tops britânicos e atingiu o décimo primeiro lugar nos tops americanos. A jovem ficou em 6º lugar na nona temporada da edição britânica do "Factor X"- o que foi um dos maiores choques de sempre no formato, pois esta estava conotava como uma das possíveis vencedora. A música do "Jukebox" desta semana é "Empira" do álbum de estreia de Ella: "Chapter One".
