REVIEW - The Martian

After reading the synopsis and realizing that it would be adapted to the seventh art (with an extraordinary cast), I got an urge to read "The Martian". The expectations were not defrauded, is an extraordinary book that tells the journey of an astronaut who after being presumed dead, tries to survive in complete solitude on a planet that he doesn't know - Mars.

"The Martian" is an enjoyable read and because is written primarily in the first person (like it was a diary), is given to the reader an immersive experience that even the loneliness that is reported by Mark Watney - the hero of the story- is felt.

Is easy to note that the author developed a major study on the space [specially Mars], because the book is very specific [scientifically, speaking]. Everything is scrutinized down to the smallest detail. And to me that's the only negative point of all reading, because all those little details end up slowing the rhythm that has been adopted by the book (until those specific parts).

I strongly advise the book to sci-fi or/and astronomy lovers, because I'm sure they will like, especially the specific part (as I mentioned before) found throughout the work. However, the story is intriguing enough to grab more readers that aren't fans of issues related to space.

Após ter lido a sinopse e ter percebido que seria adaptado à sétima arte (com um elenco extraordinário), eu fiquei com uma enorme vontade de ler "The Martian". As expetativas não foram defraudadas, é um livro extraordinário que relata a jornada de um astronauta, que após ter sido dado como morto, tenta sobreviver em plena solidão num planeta que desconhece - Marte. 

Esta 'epopeia' tem uma leitura agradável e como a obra é escrita essencialmente em relatos na primeira pessoa (como se de um diário se tratasse), é dado ao leitor uma experiência de imersão e até de solidão que é relatada por Mark Watney - o grande protagonista do livro. 

Denota-se um grande estudo e rigor cientifico depositado pelo autor na obra. Tudo é esmiuçado até ao mais ínfimo pormenor. E para mim esse é o único ponto negativo de toda a leitura, porque todos esses pequenos detalhes acabam por desvanecer o ritmo que havia sido adotado pelo livro (até essas partes específicas).

Aconselho vivamente o livro aos amantes de sci-fi e astronomia, porque tenho a certeza que vão gostar, especialmente do rigor (que mencionei à pouco) encontrado durante todo a obra. Contudo, a história é suficientemente intrigante para agarrar os leitores mais afastados das temáticas ligadas ao espaço.
